But we can not be sure.
It might go the same way as the Itanic IA-64.
So far it seems that x64_64 will be it (availability).

Yes, these Xeons are expensive, and I would not expect to find such
computers in the rubbish bin.

That depends on the number of developers, and on the availability of IA-32e.
